Feedback from the IMY students from Bernburg, Germany |
|
A few weeks ago the German IDA students left Italy and IMY, and we have
interviewed Birgit Sielmon, that prepared the students before their arrival in
Italy, and that are following up the work experiences now that they are
back home.
"The group of youngsters are participating in different employment projects of their hometown Bernburg that aims at finding work or training for young people", she explains. "They are all socially disadvantaged and unemployed, and the objectives of this work experience training with IMY were many: to give the youngsters new impulses and motivate them to actively search their professional direction, to gain insight about the working life and conditions in Italy and break down prejudices, and of course to live an experience in another country."
The role of Birgit was to prepare the participants for the internships in Italy, organizing and outlining all practical aspects with CSCS and the preparation of the group that included Geography of Italy and Tuscany, the Italian way of life, the way to behave and some basic Italian words.

Steven talks about his work experience |
|
My name is Steven. I am one of those who came from Germany to Italy for a work experience and get to know Italy and learn about its culture.
Here in Italy I first of all I had to learn that in a foreign culture you need to communicate very clearly to be understood and to be able to understand. Already in the beginning it was difficult as they were able to talk with us only in English and Italian, because they did not speak German as we do. I learned that it is very difficult to cross the streets even if there ar crossroads, but we survived that aspect too.
For me it has never been easy to approach people, and certainly not people who do not speak my language. But here I had no choice and therefore I had to try, even if I could only speak English, I learned that I have to believe in myself and just try to take a step towards them, because I am the one coming from another country.

Pools - M: innovative methodologies for language learning used within Italymobility courses |
|
The slogan of italymobility is " Your development - Our goal" is its objective is that young people enjoy their stay in Italy and feel enriched not only from the personal perspective but also from the professional point of view. During their stay, the students have the possibility to learn more about the Italian language participating in an Italian language course.
The IMY Italian course uses a communicative language teaching method that is especially thought for mobility experiences. The students coming in Italy have, of course, various profiles; some of them consider learning Italian as very interesting and important, others do not feel the need of having a good grammar and appreciate less the idea of studying during their work placement. We therefore tried to propose classes focused on “doing” instead of “explaining".

Loida, come altri
